Ten of the Most Important Lessons I’ve Learned in 20 Years

  1. Stop looking for perfection, accept what you have. Be grateful for your strengths, don’t only focus on your weaknesses. Stop expecting things to always be smooth, interesting, and easy, life is messy, not perfect.
  2. Don’t compare yourself to others. Everyone has things they aren’t happy about they just don’t show it. No one on Earth has a perfect life.
  3. Be yourself and accept yourself. If it feels right, do it.
  4. Only spend your time on people who deserve it. Make sure they care about you as much as you care about them.
  5. People don’t change, they are still going to have the same mindset and way of thinking no matter how much you try to change their mind. Accept them and remember that next time they get upset with you. Try to put yourself in other’s shoes.
  6. Improve every day. Learn, soak it all up, live life to the fullest. Make your curiosity important to you.
  7. Address things that bother you. Sometimes it’s a five-minute conversation that can change the way you and your teacher/boss/friend/coworker get along. Being honest will resolve problems by creating a mutual understanding of each other. Difficult conversations are hard, but they are crucial for building relationships.
  8. Put yourself first. Make sure your mental and physical health is okay before you do anything. There is no one who knows what you are going through better than you.
  9. Get out of your comfort zone. Say yes to new things, hang out with new people, create challenges for yourself and accomplish them.
  10. Stay productive. It can get stressful but you have to be on top of it. Putting things off just makes it worse. Make sure you are organized.
